A New Trick

Truitt recently started tugging at his left ear. This is new for him. He has mastered rubbing his nose or eyes when itchy or tired, but has never done any other kind of purposeful tugging or rubbing. Until now.

The ear tugging started a few weeks ago. He had a slight cold, and seemed to feel fine otherwise, so we chalked it up to his new trick. Splendid. He learned something new! He has EARS!

Turns out it was more than finding out he has ears. He found it because he knew something wasn't feeling quite right. Little did we know, a failed hearing screening at school would tell us just why he was tugging. He has never shown any signs of trouble hearing. So I was concerned and instantly called the Pediatrician.

I did not want to be told he now had hearing loss.

After a quick peek from the Pediatrician, we found that his little ear was full to the brim with fluid. Thick, yucky fluid that no one could pass a hearing test with. Must have been caused by his congestion. So we concluded that our smart little Truitt was tugging his ear out of annoyance, rather than pain. Good news.

But...

Sleepless nights, lack of appetite, and constant crying paired with ear tugging came shortly there after. And I knew. That yucky fluid hung around JUST long enough to turn into an infection. So back to the Pediatrician we went, and yes indeed, he has his second ever ear infection. Poor boy. It breaks my heart when he is sick.

So there you have it. Truitt has a new skill :)
